In a bid to boost agricultural mechanisation in the state, the Adamawa State Government has purchased and distributed 140 tractors to the state’s Local Government Areas and Ministry of Agriculture.
State Governor, Mohammed Bindow stated this while receiving members of Tractor Owners and Operators Association of Nigeria (TOOAN) who paid him a visit in Yola, Thursday.
He lamented the neglect of agriculture by the previous governments in the state, adding that the few tractors handed over to his government upon assumption of office were procured by the defunct Gongola State Government.
Bindow gave an assurance of his administration’s continued support to the agricultural sector in a bid to achieve food security, stressing that his administration’s policies in the sector had recorded huge results in the last two years.
He solicited the support of the association in attaining agricultural mechanisation to enhance mass food production in the state.
TOOAN National Chairman, Mr Bitrus Elisha expressed the association’s readiness to partner the state government in agricultural mechanisation.
He added that the association had registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission and would soon venture into different businesses.
